Our Presidents

Eta Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. was chartered on May 23, 1964, at Luigi’s Restaurant on Westchester Avenue, Bronx New York. Former North Atlantic Regional Director, Member Alocita Flood officiated the Chartering, and there were twelve charter members: 

Members Nearline Bertin, Gwendolyn B. Bland, Thora L. Dudley, Jacqueline L. Everett, Olga O. Garett, Joan S. Drane Silvey, Mary O. Harris Hope, Bessie Johnson, Mae Tate Jones, Gladys J. Simms, Marietta Tanner, and Irma Wilson.

Ms. Olga O. Garett

Ms. Garett served as the 1st and 4th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

During her 1st administration, guided by the Civil Rights Movement, Ms. Garett led the chapter to host a Luncheon in which the chapter honored Mr. Kivie Kaplan, the National Chairman of the NAACP Life Membership Committee.  Soror Garrett presented Mr. Kaplan with a check for $1000 to the NAACP Special Fund.

4th President of Eta Omega Omega 1973-1974

2nd President of Eta Omega Omega, 1967 - 1968

Ms. Delores Lemon served as the 2nd President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

During her administration, the chapter held its Autumn Frolic, featuring La Roque Bey and his dancers.  Autumn Frolic was an annual event to increase the chapter’s scholarship fund.  The chapter further established its presence in the Bronx and donated to the NAACP and Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Ms. Grace Wheeler

Ms. Grace Wheeler served as the 3rd President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

During Ms. Wheeler’s administration, the chapter successfully raised money, enabling the sorority to close out the Martin Luther King Fund Drive to purchase his birth home.

3rd President of Eta Omega Omega, 1969 - 1972

5th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1975 - 1976

Ms. Dierdre Jones served as the 5th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter. 

​

During her administration, Ms. Jones implemented the Reading Experience. Working with other The New York Chapters Chairperson, she helped implement the 3rd successful reading experience.  The overall goal was to help eradicate illiteracy.

Ms. Mary DeCharbert

Ms. Mary DeCharbert served as the 6th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

6th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1977 - 1980

7th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1981-1982

Ms. Dorothy Sharp-Hart served as the 7th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

Ms. Isabella Mcleod

8th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1983-1986

Ms. Isabella Mcleod served as the 8th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

Ms. McLeod ensured that the community was educated and engaged in the political process.  During Ms. McLeod's administration, the chapter hosted a Voters Forum on the roles and responsibilities of elected officials.

Ms. Sheila E. Jackson

9th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1987-1988

Ms.Shelia Jackson served as 9th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

She continued the chapter long legacy of exceptional services to the Bronx community. Ms. Jackson is one of our living legends who still inspires members to remain active in services to the community.

Ms. Helen Morgan Tomlinson

10th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1989-1990

Ms. Helen Morgan Tomlinson served as the 10th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

Ms. Tomilson served as president during a time when the sorority focused on the end of hazing practices.

Ms. Joy Elaine Daley

11th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1991-1994

Soror Joy Elaine Daley served as 11th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter. 

​

She has been recognized as President of the Year.

​

As the 30th North Atlantic Regional Director, she lead the region to great heights with a strong emphasis on being timely, accountable, transparent, and fiscally responsible.

​

She was appointed in 2018 and served as International Regional Director from 2019 - 2022.

Ms. Pauline L Monsanto

12th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1995 – 1998

Soror Pauline L. Monsanto served as the 12th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following

  • Won Graduate Advisor of the Year (1997), received by member J. Jones 

  • Won 1st Place Program Exhibit (1998)

Ms. Phyllis Forde

13th President of Eta Omega Omega, 1999-2002

Soror Phyllis Forde served as the 13th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

​

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following​

  • Won President of the Year, Mid Size Chapter (2002)

  • Won 1st place Chapter of the Year, Mid Size Chapter (2002)

  • Won Spirit Award for Rites of Passage Mentoring Program (2002)

  • Won 1st Place Program Exhibit (1998) 

  • Received Gold Level EAF Certificate

  • Appointed Cluster 3 Co-Coordinator in 2000-2002

  • The Angel Award, received by member Pauline L. Monsanto  

  • The Community Service Award -Rosalie Hall

Ms. LaVerne D. B. King

14th President of Eta Omega Omega, 2003-2006

Ms. LaVerne D. B. King served as the 14th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following:

  • Won 2nd place Chapter of the Year  (2004)

  • The Chaplains committee was instituted. 

  • The chapter received an Educational Award for Reading One to One (2004)

Ms. Regina Williams served as the 15th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following:​

  • Won 1st place Chapter of the Year, Small Sized Chapter (2007)

Ms. Linda Simms Chin

16th President of Eta Omega Omega, 2009-2010

Ms. Linda Simms Chin served as the 16th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following:​

  • Won President of the Year (2010)

  • The Highway Beautification Award was awarded to Eta Omega Omega for AKARosa initiatives.

Mrs. Monica L. Whiting-Hogans

17th President of Eta Omega Omega, 2011-2014

Mrs. Monica L. Whiting-Hogans served as the 17th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter. 

​

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following:​​

  • Won Chapter of the Year (2011, 2013)

  • Won President of the Year (2013, 2014)

  • Won the Ruth C. Easley Reactivation Award (2011)

  • Won the Erma W. Barron Making A Difference Award for Connection (2011)

  • Won the Wilma Holmes - Tootle Educational Enhancement Award (2011), received by member Donna Joseph

  • Won Shining Star Service Award (2012)

  • Won the Idell S. Pugh Angel Award (2012), received by member Juliette Charles-Rawlins

  • Received Process Pearl, North Atlantic Region Certificate (2011)

  • Received EAF Gold Level Certificate (2011), and received EAF Platinum Level Certificate (2013, 2014)

  • Received Community Service Award from the NYPD 47th Precinct Community Council (2013)

Ms. Marci Whitehead

18th President of Eta Omega Omega, 2015-2018

Ms. Marci Whitehead served as the 18th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter. Her platform was "The Pink Print."

19th President of Eta Omega Omega, 2019-2022

Ms. Donna Joseph was the 19th President of Eta Omega Omega Chapter.

During her administration, the chapter achieved the following:​​​

  • 2019 received The North Bronx Section of  National Council of Negro Women, Incorporated Women of Distinction Award

  • 2019 received Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated Xi Phi Chapter Community Partner Award for Scholarship

  • 2020 received the North Atlantic Region Virtual Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) -Largest Chapter Donor

  • Received EAF Platinum Level Certificate (2019, 2020, 2022)
